A sharp increase in fuel prices has started reflecting in Chhattisgarh. Petrol prices in Raipur have now crossed the ₹103 per litre mark. The latest hike of nearly ₹3 per litre has also pushed diesel prices up significantly, taking it close to ₹96.55 per litre in the state capital.
Petrol, which was earlier priced at ₹100.45 per litre, has now moved beyond ₹103. Diesel has risen from ₹93.39 to around ₹96.55 per litre. The sudden increase led to long queues at several petrol pumps across the city on Friday morning, as people rushed to fill fuel. Many residents have expressed concern over the rising cost, saying it would directly affect their daily expenses. For several families, the increase adds to an already rising cost of living.

Experts say the impact of the hike will not remain limited to vehicle owners. Higher fuel prices are expected to increase transportation costs, which may lead to a rise in the prices of essential goods. The cost of moving goods within the state and to other regions is likely to go up, affecting the market more broadly.
The experts suggest that the price rise is linked to global developments. Ongoing tensions in the Gulf region and rising geopolitical uncertainty have disrupted crude oil supply, pushing up prices in the international market. The effect is now visible in domestic fuel rates.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to citizens to use petrol and diesel carefully. He has encouraged greater use of public transport and electric vehicles, stressing the need to conserve fuel in view of global conditions.
The appeal appears to be influencing behaviour in Chhattisgarh. The Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai along with several ministers and legislators, has reduced the number of vehicles in official convoys. Some public representatives have also started using electric vehicles.
